A Trip down Memory Lane

 Daniel's parents, Susan Ricks and Calvin Baker, met at Utah State University in Logan, Utah 49 years ago while attending school. For Family Home Evening we listened to Grandma and Grandpa's story over the phone about how they met, then drove the thirty minutes to Logan. We drove by the houses they use to live in, then by Utah State, and ended up at their favorite date spot for a treat.

The first place Susan and Cal lived was a basement apartment. Here is what it looked like then:

Not much has changed, except the shrubbery and the awning.

After the above house, they then moved to the house below.

It looks like it was red when they lived there. Sometime after that, it was painted white, and it is currently painted blue. It is showing its age a little more.

 Daniel and I met while we were both attending Ricks College (now BYU-I) in Rexburg, Idaho. After our marriage we moved to Logan, Utah, in the fall of 1993, so Daniel could attend Utah State. Our first apartment was also a basement apartment at 340 S 3rd East, about two blocks away from where Daniel's parents lived and on the same side of the street. I think we knew they lived across from the temple and since we were two blocks away, it had to be close, but I don't think we ever realized exactly where they lived or how close it was when we actually lived there. We realized it when we drove pass our old apartment on the way to find their first apartment.

This is the second apartment Daniel and I lived in after Makala was born. It looks very much the same, with the same paint colors.

 This was the church were we attended while living in Logan, and where Makala was blessed as a baby. It was also the building that Cal and Susan attended when they lived in Logan. It is very distinctive with it's copper steeple.

It doesn't look much different then when we lived there 19 years ago.

One of Calvin and Susan's favorite dates was to get a double scoop ice cream cone a the Aggies Ice Cream shop. It use to be in the basement of one of the buildings on campus, but is now located on 1200 East, next door to the stake center.

The Ice cream was definitely a hit! and a perfect way to end the evening.

Lemon Custard was one of the preferred flavors, as well as the mint. When we got home and asked Grandma and Grandpa what they usually ordered it was funny to learn Lemon Custard was a favorite of both of them, and Daniel ordered the exact flavors, Praline Pecan and Maple Nut, that his father often ordered. Chocolate mint was also a favorite of Susan's that Hanna, Becca, and Andrew each ordered.

Makala and Jake were able to share with us which was fun.

Oh Brother! Brothers. Some teasing on Joseph's part seems to have earned him the death glare from his older brother. Good thing they are friends and usually get along.

The only place we were unable to visit was Lund Hall where Susan lived in Student housing before her marriage. It was demolished this spring to make room for an addition to the business college.

All in all, it was a fun drive down memory lane and sharing of history from one generation to the next, with a delicious treat to make it even more memorable.
