Corn Maze Daze

An old post, finally finished . . .

There is a new corn maze about 40 mins from our house. On opening day, the first 100 Home Schoolers received free admission, so we loaded up the family and met our friends for some fun. We tried the corn maze first. There were three to choose from--of course we went for the most challenging. There were soon three teams: fast, medium, and slow. The Fast Team was the boys running like crazy. First you would hear them, then you would see them. The Medium Team included The Methodical Map Reader and Follower. Slow was the Moms with Strollers and Littles team. Even with a map, there was some back tracking and circling, but we finally made our way out. Brother Mall and Hanna were the first team out of the maze, followed by the Moms and Littles. After waiting a bit, we sent the "Corn Cops" in to pull the boys (aka Team Fast) out of the maze. There were other activities we wanted to get do!

The Zip Line

One of the activities was the zip line. This is Noah getting on with help from his mother Tessa. Rebecca and Hanna enjoyed it as well. The boys thought it was a little tame to sit on the seat, so they talked the attendant into putting the hanging handle bar on instead. Then the fun really began. It was much harder to stay on! (Maybe leaving them while the mom took The Littles on the hay ride wasn't such a good idea--but they managed to not get hurt, thankfully!)

Ever shoot an ear of corn across the field? It is a blast!

The air compressor puts air into a tank, and the pressure builds. . .

At about 15 lbs of pressure you pull the trigger, and that chunk of corn cob goes flying!

Pack that corn cob chunk in tight--use a ramrod if you need to! (The attendant was having way too much fun!)

Here is the camera crew from the Smithsonian Chanel. They were doing a 50 State Documentary (something to do with aerial views), and this was one of their stops in Missouri. The had a helicopter and did several shots from the air. (We waved to the helicopter from the corn maze--wonder if they could zoom in close enough to see our faces?) We watched them shooting footage of other families and then they actually started filming us! It was pretty fun. (It won't view until November or sometime. . . hopefully we will know ahead of time and can let ya'all know.)

Here are our friends. Also, notice the stacked hay bales in the background. Falling off the haystack isn't nearly as much fun when it is baled. (just ask Joseph! His face is still telling the story.)

Take a large *sandbox* fill it with corn kernels instead of sand, and you have a recipe for a lot of fun!

The Rabbits

What fun little fluff balls!

Most of the other children had left, and our friend was a friend of a friend of the owner, so we kind of had extra privleges. They pulled the rabbits out and let the children hold them (no one else got to) because we had handled rabbits before and knew how to be careful.

By the end of the day, we had more than just dirty toes! They were pretty much filthy from head to toe, but oh the fun we had!
