January, February, and the first week of March we had plenty of snow in Idaho! We were really glad we had saved our winter clothes. Favorite winter activities this winter included ice fishing, shoveling snow, and digging out a huge snow cave out of the mound of snow in our driveway. Above is the start of the snow mound. Elizabeth loved going outside, but always got too cold to last very long.

Cisco are a type of white fish, a little larger than herring, that are found only in Bear Lake, a lake that straddles the Idaho/Utah border, about an hour and half from here. Both states consider it in-state fishing regardless of the shore you are on. Cisco spawn in February and are a favorite of ice fisherman. Daniel had never fished for Cisco before so when the run started he took the day off and loaded up the gear as well as Jospeh and Caleb (who had the day off from school) and they headed out to try their luck. The limit is 30 and all three took there limit. Daniel looked up the directions on the internet (how did we ever survive without the internet?) for canning sardines, and we canned up the Cisco. When opened, they taste very similar to tuna. With a little mayonnaise you couldn't taste the difference. Next year Daniel says he will have to take more children so we can catch more!
It snowed and snowed and snowed. Each time our friend plowed the driveway, the mound of snow grew until there wasn't room to push it out of the way anymore and another friend came and piled it up with his tractor. This made an awesome mound of snow, about three times the size of the one in the picture above. (That was just the snow from the sidewalks.) The children were excited to dig out and create a snow cave. It was pretty intense, almost 20 feet long, tunneling in one end, widening in the middle and then a second exit/entrance on the other end. Everyone pitched in with the work and Daniel helped too. It took several weekends and a lot of hours, but was worth the effort. Here are some of the pictures.

To give you some perspective, the cot leaning up against the side is 6 feet in length, and as you can tell the cave is much longer than that.
We enjoyed the white stuff, but are more than ready for warmer weather. The snow is melting and we say, "Bring on Spring!"
